I have personally tried the 'roll yer own' SCSI hard drive system. And it
works VERY well. I have the pinouts for putting it together, and are
available to anyone that is willing to do some soldering and save about
$200 under the price of a CMS 60meg!! I now have a SCSI system with a ST277N
in an external case (with room for one more after 32meg prodos volume limit
is changed) and a CMS SCSI card. If I get enough response, I will post for
all to see and SAVE!!

Would you send me the pinouts, and how you did everything.

I too have put together my own SCSI hard disk. We had an unused Sysgen Hard
disk (IBM type) sitting around the office, so I signed it out and took it
home. It was an ST-506 type, so I bought an Adaptec 4070 SCSI to ST-506 RLL
controller, and slapped in on top of the drive. Then built a cable (the
description of which has been posted in this newsgroup recently) to connect
the drive to a CMS card in my CPU. I have 60megs of storage, more whenever
the 32meg limit is increased. The only problem I encountered was not being
able to hard format the drive. I had to take it to a friends house (he had
an Atari ST w/ SCSI HD) to do the job. The CMS software is hard coded to
work with their drives only.
