Top Secret is a mixture of magnificent sucesses and dismal failures. Strangely enough, most of the failures occur in the Spy gags and most of the good stuff are non-sequiters. (Actually, the whole movie is a bunch of non-sequiters). The main character is Nick (I don't remember his last name), who is an All American rock n roll star who sings slightly modified Beach Boys songs in a manner that is not quite a parody of Elvis Presley. He is the country's greatest singer. He has been chosen to appear at an arts festival in East Berlin where he gets mixed up with the 'resistance' and a comely lass named Hilary ("..That's German for she with breasts that defy gravity."). The list of films and genres parodies only start with spy flicks. Beach movies, Elvis movies are heavily influenced. Also there is a magnificent parody on _The Blue Lagoon_. The "Skeet Surfing" song with the beach party visuals is worth a couple dollars alone -- I'd love to see it released as a video. As I said, a large percentage of the gags fail. There are several tasteless, stupid sexual jokes involving cows which were uncalled for. (I am generally not offended by sexual or dirty jokes that work). My rating system involves how much I'd recommend people pay to see a film. This one is worth $4.00. {sri-unix|sun}!parallel!eric
