Its been quite sometime (at least in my perception) since I posted the description of the problem I am having in getting Backup II to backup my harddrive, either in whole or in part. Nary a constructive answer; one or two sympathetic ones (gee, you couldn't get it to work either.) If no-one can answer the question (what does the error message "File expected" (or something like that) mean, could someone tell me how to work through the bureaucracy at Apple to find someone who can -- I really do need to backup my disk in a format that allows it to be reloaded to itself after it has been reformatted and partitioned to a larger size and so far Backup II is the only thing that I've find that is even supposed to be able to do that. Earlier versions of Backup II had a lot of problems, and lacked some intrinsic features (like being able to format a 3.5" disk). The latest version of Backup II is 1.1.1 -- so if you're using something earlier, upgrade now. The "File expected" (or whatever) error I've seen come up when Backup II was unable to open and read a subdirectory file. If the DIR file is read-locked (meaning, the read access permission is denied) this can occur. Damaged DIR file structures can also cause this (run Bredon's Mr.Fixit to hunt these guys down). Actually, anything that prohibits Backup II from opening and/or reading the DIR file will end in that error message, and that could be a number of things. --Morgan UUCP: crash!pnet01!pro-sol!mdavis ProLine: mdavis@pro-sol ARPA: crash!pnet01!pro-sol!mdavis@nosc.mil MCI Mail: 137-6036 INET: mdavis@pro-sol.cts.com APE, BIX: mdavis
