I have a RAMfactor in slot 6 (which is like an Apple Memory Expansion card) of my //GS that is battery-backed up. I initialized it under GS/OS and used the installer to copy the system files to it. Everything appeared to work correctly for a few hours, and then boom. The root volume was corrupted. This happened 4 more times. I tried initialization with both the Finder and Advanced Disk Utilities. I had had no previous problems with 3.2 or 3.1. My card is OK, the chips have CAS before RAS. According to Applied Engineering, there might be something wrong with Apple's initialization utilities since they have used other utilities to format their RAMdisks and have had no problems with GS/OS. IS this true? Does a format under the GS/OS finder of a RAMdisk in a slot end up differently than one formatted with a P8 utility? If not, what could have caused my problems? Extra info: after initialization of the RAMdisk, Mr. Fixit found no problems. But, after running a few programs, Mr. Fixit found a block # out of range in the root volume /RAM6. It fixed it and I've had no problems since then. If I let it go by without fixing this block, it corrupts more and more blocks until I can't boot anymore from the RAMcard.
