More info. listed all my directories again in physical order and noticed that Backup II had stopped clearing the backup bit part way through one of the last directories (and for any directories/files thereafter.) Assumption: it had trouble writing to that directory. Test -- tried backing up just that directory (and all the files it contains.) result: backup worked fine, bakcup bit cleared on all files in the directory. question: is it possible that backup II isn't designed to handle a drive over some size or containing more than so many files? (although that doesn't seem a good explanation since it did all the way through to the end during the backup phase.) TMPLee@dockmaster.arpa
