[comp.sys.apple] Does Wozniak need a job?

FFDDO@ALASKA.BITNET (David Oberhart) (11/14/88)

Hey Keith,
I saw a message here saying Woz wasn't with
Apple anymore. Is this true? Does
anyone else know anything about this?

I think that he draws a token salary of $1 a year or something, and he certainly
owns a sh*tload of stock, but he hasn't been active at Apple for many years. He
did some work on the GS, but that was it.

I briefly talked to him after AppleFest in Boston; I was fortunate enough to be
taking the same plane back to California with him. At that time, I found out
that his plans for becoming a teacher were coming fruition. He intended to
start this fall, but I don't know if that ever happened, or where he ended up
taking a job.

The way I heard it, Woz got tired of Jobs' obsession with the Mac (he's one of
us...), and left. After Jobs hired Scully and Scully fired Jobs, Woz bought
his way back in. He's obviously been hanging around a little; my computer
has "Woz" written on it...

With the money he's made, I don't see why he would NEED a job.

It might not be a question of wether or not he needs a job, but wether or not
he WANTS a job.

A lot of people would rather work then do nothing, as is often the case of
lottery winners (after a few months of nothing).

He DOES. He wants to teach, and in the worst way. He has dropped
out of the public picture to get first his long-put-off BS (he has
it now) and whatever graduate training is necessary for teaching.

Picture it now... walking in to a CS/EE course in the future
taught by ol' Prof Woz.

As a matter of fact, Wozniak wants to teach third grade!

He spent the summer with a whole bunch of tutors, and Cup't
gave him an honorary certificate so that he could teach in his
son's school. Though I think he'll be assisting classes for a while...

He was inspired by a 5th grade teacher of his, and I think his
primary interests are with the younger kids...

It's too bad- I'd LOVE to take a course from Prof Woz!
