[comp.sys.apple] The need to put 4-bit updates on Apple2-L

Tabakal@UB.CC.UMICH.EDU (11/26/88)

Well, it is with some excitement that I am finally able to hint (not
fully announce) that I am bringing up a very large collection of the
past year's Apple2-L distribution for anonymous FTP. The collection
is only limited by what people send to the list, whether or not I
can receive the files (4-bit only, please), and my turnaround time for
testing for viruses. The details will be released next week (well
in time for downloading games for Christmas).

What I would like to see is more recent updates of programs uploaded
to Apple2-L. I've heard that there is a newer version of Vaccine that
works better with the Finder. If I have it, you'll have it. Many
files have sat on the ListServer unchanged for a year while GS/OS
passes them by. Same goes for //e and //c software, though obviously
at a slower rate. If you have a more recent version of a program,
please consider uploading it to Apple2-L (in 4 bit) with a note to
Chris telling him to replace the earlier version.

Once that is done, we can go about the business of ridding the Server
of any 6-bit material. That way, we all can get access to the programs.

More details later. It will be >ftp um.cc.umich.edu but all of the
anonymous system administration isn't completed yet. Oh, and, 60-70
megs of Mac and IBM files will become available at the same time.
