[comp.sys.apple] EDITING THE UNDISK

rc3h+@ANDREW.CMU.EDU (Ross Ward Comer) (11/30/88)

Yes, Copy II+ does support memory expansion in NORMAL DISK COPYING.
However, it will only copy one track at a time using the 5 1/4"
BITCOPY. This means that people with one 5 1/4" drive must swap the
disks thirty-some times when using BITCOPY no matter how much expanded
memory they have. None of the 5 1/4" BITCOPY utilities support any extra
memory.

I have spoken with Central Point about this, but they would only say
that they would "look into it".

That is untrue...Normal ProDOS delete just de-allocates the disk blocks but
does not erase the actual file data. Now, ---IF--- the file data is ---NOT---
overwritten, you can still unerase it, which is what Copy II+ does by
re-allocating the disk blocks and restoring the file header. Or something like
that.

I know it works that way, because I had inadvertantly deleted a file off my BBS
disk (which uses standard ProDOS calls) and went into CP2+ and it worked
without a hitch. The crucial thing is that you do NOT do ANY writing to the
disk after you find out you want the file back.

Depends what version...my 3.5" bit copy depends on how much RAM I have free. It
can take six passes, it can take one pass per track. Depends...
