[comp.sys.apple] Superdrive and MacTrans GS

SASQUATCH@ALBION.BITNET ("Kevin O. Lepard") (12/13/88)

Does anyone know if there is a versionof MacTrans GS that works with 800K
Mac Disks? Or, better yet, if there is a Mac FST available for the GS?
Also, does anyone know if there is a MS-DOS FST available or in the works?
A+ said that such a FST would have limited usefulness because the regular
Apple 3.5" drives used a different formatting scheme. That is correct,
but the 3.5" drive can easily read and write to disks formatted on MS-DOS
machines. If you do an MS-DOS format on an Apple 3.5" drive _then_ you may
have problems using that disk on MS-DOS machines depending on the drive they
are using. I think, therefore that a MS-DOS FST would be very useful since
there is a proliferation of MS-DOS clones here; data transfers would not be
a problem as long as I used disks formatted on MS-DOS clones.

With regard to the new Superdrive in the Mac IIx, are there any plans for
marketing it as a separate drive for use w/ the Mac and IIGS? If so, what
is the expected price on it?

Thanks in advance.
