OK, new question. The mainframe at work only supports Kermit transfer protocol. I have Apple-Kermit (3.79??) but I can't make it work properly. It will dial the number, connect, and then hang up immediately. I have all settings correct, and I have been able to connect with other communications software (Apple Access //, ProComm-A). I am using a //c and a 300 Baud Prometheus Promodem. Without being able to connect I can't download Kermit V3.84 or other files. BTW, it does the same thing with ASCII Express. Any ideas to what I'm doing wrong? ----------------------------------------------- | Rob Caton |"I'm not trying | |--------------------------| to cause a big | | C70301RC@WUVMD | sensation."-RD | |============================================== | "ACK THIPPFFT" _ /| | Don't blame me; | | --Bill 'O.O | I voted for Bill | | the =(___)= | and Opus!!! | | Cat U | | -----------------------------------------------

This is a reply to Rob Catobn's question about why Kermit (3.79?) hangs up, and so does ASCII Express, but not ProComm-A. Rob, you have the jumper on your Promodem set to pass "true" carrier detect signals. The jumper has to be moved to the other position (carrier detect alwatys high) in order to connect usinfg either AE or Kermit. Good luck. P.s. Put the jumper back again to use ProComm-A.
