[comp.sys.apple] A good mail-order source

wjb1@tank.uchicago.edu (william jay buikema) (12/15/88)

I'm interested in finding a good reliable source for mail-order programs for
the Apple][ GS. My father recently bought one, and I'd like to get him a
Christmas present for it. Any recommendations are welcome, good and bad
stories, etc. Please E-mail to me directly if possible.

I ordered an AE Serial Pro card from Preferred Computing (800-327-7234).
The card was advertised at $105. They added $5 for shipping and no charge
for credit cards. It arrived promptly and without any problem. I'm very
satisfied with them.

I have also had great service from Preferred Computing. My order came
promptly. They were very helpful on the phone.

I have also done business with Preferred Computing (located here in
Dallas). I ordered the AE Transwarp accelerator and Serial Pro
clock/serial card combination. Both arrived the following day via UPS
ground. I also ordered a System Saver GS for a friend of mine who lives
some 40 miles away, and he also received it the next day.

They are a full Applied Engineering dealer, and they carry some other
products for the Apple II, such as the much-praised Sony TV/RGB Monitor,
the TimeOut series of Appleworks enhancements, miscellaneous additional
software, and RAM chips for the IIe and IIGS.

Their prices are competitive in my estimation and they shipped exactly
when they said they would. I can't ask for anything more.

One source I've always had good luck with is "Silicon Express".
Their prices are highly competitive and their service has been
excellent to-date. Sorry I don't have their number or address
with me, but they can be found in most Apple II magazines.
