[comp.sys.apple] //c disk controller

nakada@husc4.HARVARD.EDU (Paul Nakada) (01/05/89)

hello, all...
Today i noticed an ad for a fairly inexpensive 3.5 inch floppy
drive for the //e ][+ and //c. It struck me as being kind of
odd, because i was under the impression that all //c's required
unidisk 3.5 f loppy drives. When i called tech support for the
mail order firm, I was told that some //c's have a Universal
Disk Controller. Is this true? She seemed to imply that this
controller was present in //c's prior to the //c+.

Can anyone confirm this? If so, is there any kind of upgrade
	policy related to it?

	thanks
	-paul nakada

The //c that preceded the //c+ (the up-to-date one with current ROMS) could
run both 3.5 (Apple Unidisk 3.5) and 5.25 drives. They piggy-back if you want
both. This doesn't mean a universal disk controler, in the Laser EX sense,
since a //gs or Mac 3.5 drive could not be used.
