Our system bulletin board is subscribed to Info-Apple. I had to unsubscribe because of this. Anyway- My Apple IIe boots with the Apple //e logo which I read means it is enhanced. BUT I can't run software that requires an enhanced IIe. So whats going on here? Is the company that sells SOFTERM still around? Does anyone have a phone number? I bought one of their programs at a discount clearance and a lot of the prompts and error messages are garbage characters. (Softerm I is the package). last question: Are there other people having problem with exec'ing down- loads of Kermit 3.84? Between Softerm and our VAX something is giving me lousy downloads that only print syntax error messages on my Apple. I am using 8 bit/ no parity, and both straight text and Xmodem downloads are crapping out on me. send replies, if any, to our bulletin board: LINFOAPP@VCUVAX.BITNET LINFOAPP@RUBY.VCU.EDU or myself: ATKINSON @ VCUVAX.BITNET, ATKINSON@RUBY.VCU.EDU Thanks, Luther

What you have below sounds like perhaps you haven't ALL the enhanced ROM chips installed. >Is the company that sells SOFTERM still around? Does anyone have a phone >number? I haven't the current phone number, but I believe Joe Craparotta <craparotta%liovax.dec@decwrl.dec.com> has it. They ARE still in business, but they don't seem much interested in supporting their Apple 2 product anymore. The "garbage characters" may be "mousetext" (if you are using an older Apple //e 80 column card driver). If that's the problem and you can't get a driver from Softronics, let me know and I'll hexify the file (pretty small) and mail it to you. >last question: Are there other people having problem with exec'ing down- >loads of Kermit 3.84? Between Softerm and our VAX something is giving >me lousy downloads that only print syntax error messages on my Apple. Sounds like you're getting linefeeds after carriage return (SOFTERM has an option to delete LF after CR - make sure it's set to Y, and if you're downloading to DOS 3.3 make sure the high bit is set - Y, also be sure that "pad blank lines" is N). >I am using 8 bit/ no parity, and both straight text and Xmodem downloads >are crapping out on me. The default probably is to add LF after CR ('cause that's what IBM-PC's want :-( >send replies, if any, to our bulletin board: LINFOAPP@VCUVAX.BITNET > LINFOAPP@RUBY.VCU.EDU If that address is the distributor of info-apple, then sending a copy to it and to info-apple will cause duplication.
