For Zip technologies address, look in a copy of Nibble magazine for one of their ads. BUT BE CAREFUL! I have been using a Zip Chip in my Apple //c for a few months and have had no problems with it whatsoever. A friend of mine who has an Apple II+ asked me if he could try the Zip Chip out on his computer. We tried it, and some very strange things happened -- once the computer simple locked up, forcing us to reboot, and later, when running an Applesoft program that my friend has used for years, it gave us a syntax error in a line that was correct. Moral: THE ZIP CHIP DOES NOT WORK WITH THE APPLE II+. Michael Wertheim Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh, PA Arpa: mw22@andrew.cmu.edu Bitnet: mw22%andrew@cmccvb

I've used my Zip Chip in my II+ and I've had no problems. What may have happen- ed is a poor pin connection when you removed the chip from the //c to the II+. When I first got one, switched it back and forth between my II+ and my //e and eventually the pin connection to the actual chip probably broke and it did weird things...I'd wiggle it and then it'd work but later it'd die again. I got it replaced and since then I haven't taken it out so it doesn't have any problems anymore. Their packaging (the chip) is REALLY cheap so like it says in the manual, don't take it out. After trying out the Zip Chip in my friend's II+, we put his 6502 back into the II+, and his II+ has been working well ever since. I put the Zip Chip back in my //c and it has been working well, too. The reason I jumped to the conclusion that the Zip Chip doesn't work in the II+ is that my friend had previously asked his local Apple dealer about the Zip Chip, and the dealer told him that the Zip Chip doesn't work with the II+. MORAL: Either the Zip Chip doesn't work well with the II+, or it does work with the II+ but you have to be REAL sure that it is connected properly.
