[net.movies] Electric Dream: A Review

lmaher@uokvax.UUCP (07/23/84)

ELECTRIC DREAM sums itself up in the opening credits: "A fairy tale
for computers." It's modern mythology, not a technical look at AI.
If you had trouble suspending your disbelief in TRON, don't even
bother with this one. It does have some good moments, and if you
want to see a computer fall in love, this is much better than
DEMON SEED, say.

I didn't regret seeing it, but I can't really recommend it. On my
scale, it gets a see-it-if-you-were-going-to-anyway.

I'd agree with this article: I'd recommend it only if:

	1) You can't stand techinical silliness.

	2) You don't like sappy romance (even GOOD sappy romance)

	3) You cannot suspend your belief or cynicism at the door (this is
		IMPORTANT!)

Hey, I liked it, but very few people probably turn into a muddy ball of
sentiment like I do when faced with pictures like this (Capra gets me too).

The photography IS excellent, and the music (especially the electronic
classical) very engrossing. I don't generally like musical interludes, but
it works here (except for one or two modern ones). If you like videos, it's
another point in this movie's favor.
