[comp.sys.apple] Mac fonts -> GS fonts

Hmm...

I thought that Mac fonts and IIGS-style fonts were the same thing, but I've
found out the hard way that they are not.

I had some fonts from a Mac that I wanted to use on an Apple //, so I
separated it from the system file into its own "suitcase" file, and then
modem'ed it down to my //e (Apple File Exchange will do a straight binary-
type transfer for nearly any type of file except font files :-( ).

I took a look at with a hex dump program, located the header information that
was put in the Mac file (the index to the fonts contained in the suitcase),
and chopped it off (I already had the font I downloaded from the Mac as a
GS-style font for reference, so I could locate the beginning). However,
that still wasn't good enough. I tried to use the font in an application,
but it puked.

So, what, specifically, are the differences between Mac and GS fonts?
Does someone have a handy-dandy table outlining the differences, or (better
yet) does someone have a program that will do this automatically?
