I am having trouble getting Kermit V.3.82 to work on my II+ with
my Zoom modem. The modem is Hayes Micromodem //e compatible.

Here is what happens. When I type CONNECT the program goes to the
connect screen and say there will be a 35 sec delay. However, it
turns on the modem which comes up with a dial tone, and in the
process of waitng for Kermit, the phone company interupts with the
if you are having trouble dialing message, which the modem hangs up on.

Next, after what I assume is the 35 sec delay the modem is activated again
and I am prompted (by the modem ?) for the number to dial. The modem will then
dial the numbers I enter as I enter them in pulse mode, despite all efforts to use tone.

Finally, when I do get a connection the mainframe refuses to recognize my
password. This may be caused by either sending garbled or uppercase ony text,
I cannot tell because the password is not echoed.

The keyboard is set to 2p and the driver is for the micromodem.

Is there anyway of getting rid of the delay? How can I dial in tone mode?
Why won't the mainframe accept my password?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you ahead of time.
