[comp.sys.apple] Innerdrive, stupid CPS 3.5 drives

For those of you wondering how well the Applied Ingenuity Innerdrive *really*
works, I now have some first-hand experience... (bought the 20MB version).

First, a comment on speed: zero to GS/OS finder in 21 seconds. AppleWorks
v2.0 (from ProSel to main menu, with key presses patched out) loads fully
into memory in 10 seconds (plus 0.5 seconds for the TimeOut stuff).

The software that comes with it allows you to partition it into two ProDOS
volumes (drive 1, drive 2) whose sizes are chosen in increments of 256 bytes
(I think... don't quote me). It now also comes with a GS/OS driver.

I was having problems with some software for a while; things would mysteriously
slow down when they shouldn't (the cursor would blink extra slowly; something
was turning shadowing on and not reactivating it). Turns out that this only
happened when I flipped between accessing the HD and my CPS 3.5 drive. If I
set the slots so that the Universal Drive Controller doesn't appear in memory,
everything functions perfectly. Grrr... Another reason not to buy a CPS
clone drive.

Anyhow, it's fast, the fan is reasonably quiet, and it comes preformatted with
GS/OS. They include Apple's Backup program, a format/partition/test program,
and one sheet of very basic instructions. While the documentation is rather
nonexistent, there isn't much that really needs documenting.

BTW, the current prices are $500 for 20MB and $650 for 40MB.
