I am writting this letter in reference to all of the questions about the compatability of the Lazer 128. First I owned the original Lazer 128, and I now own the Lazer 128EX. I also own an Apple IIgs and an Apple IIc. So I am a real Apple user, so don't criticize me for not even being an Apple user. First I have been using Lazers for 1 1/2 years, actually it was that or buy an MS DOS machine. But anyway I bought the Lazer. I have been very happy with it. As far as compatibility, I have had 2 problems, make that 3. 2 had to do with compatability one with Apple Computer Company. The first was a Print Shop type program called Print Power, It was one of those cheap $10 programs. The other was a public domain program called CU*BIT. The third was Apple Link. The problem was't the software, it was Apple. I called Quantum software and they said that Apple said"If Apple Link worked on anything other than a genuine Apple, We don't want it". The problem is in addressing the built in modem port. That can be fixed by putting a super serial card in slot 7 and using that, but that is a lot of work. About the others. I called Lazer and they said "Any program that uses Apple Documented entry points will work...", meaning that if the programer follows Apple's guidlines the programs will work on the Lazers. As far as buying an Apple, an Apple Clone, or an MS DOS machine, I would recommend an Apple IIgs to anybody that can afford one. If you don't want to spend $2000+ on a GS, then the Lazer 128EX is the best buy and machine for your dollar (I hope I didn't offend any Apple Owners cause I own 2). For 1 It has all of the peripheral cards built in. If there is 1 that you want that isn't, it has 2 extra slots. The the IIc doesn't. It is 3 times as fast a the IIe and IIc. It faster than the IIgs. It also contains a 1 meg ram card, but without the RAM. Don't get me wrong, I don't work for Lazer, but I have used and really think they put out a good product. see ya Kerry Spindler kjs@Pro-Abilink Proline Kerry KerrySpindler Genie
