[comp.sys.apple] GS Wars!

tomj@pro-pac.cts.com (Tom Jenkins) (02/11/89)

Ok some additional comments about the GS Wars...

Several people have commented on the IBM vs Apple line, some even to a
great extent. Even I had thrown my $.02 in with some observations and
even went so far as to 'give' apple another year (me? ha!)

First - A LARGE and WARM THANK YOU to all of the people who defend the
Apple line. These are the die hards, and remind me of the intuitiveness
and caring that went into the first ][. I can't even begin to note all of
the Apple Developers who have responded with extremely favorable comments,
all of which were without flame. Your efforts are to be commended.

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT! KEEP IT UP!

Several posts ago, a person was torn between buying an Amiga or ][GS and
wanted some comments about how good the ][GS was (is). Ok here they are.
I have a full blown ][GS (1M, 60M hard, PC Transporter, Digitizer,
2400baud etc etc)

Most like features about the ][GS:
o Large existing data base of software (business, gaming, adventures,
etc)
o This same software that was written in 1980 will run (mostly) on a ][GS
o People who care and communicate throughout the world about Apples
o Hardware and software problems are readily solved by these people
o Software Stores who stock the Apple line are many
o Manufacturers who stand by their product (including Apple)

Least liked:
o Slow speed (this goes for all the ][ line, including the ][c+)
o ProDos not yet developed (after five years)
o High prices (come on guys - even the Amiga has better value!)
o No support from Apple (I mean no direction also)
o A few high placed people at Apple making the decisions
o The ][ line to support the Mac line
o 800K disks (1.44M= twice the storage capacity)

Please bear in mind, that I am not an expert in this. I just happend to
have spent a considerable amount of money over the past nine years on
Apple. (And even I am thinking 80386!)

Again - bring on the flames - I have all the right advisors at my chair -
Preditor, Raw Deal, The Terminator and Commando!
