I just wanted to add my say to this topic. I have an Apple II+, IIe, and IIgs. I bought the GS for the same reason everyone else did. For the G & S. I liked the compatibility with the older software also. But I DIDN'T buy it so that I could run IIe/IIc software forever. Where is all of the GS-specific software? You can count the new GS software releases with 1 hand. Oh LOOK, they finally came out with Shadowgate for the GS! Big deal! Almost every software release comes out for the IBM & Mac's & Amigas before (and IF) it ever makes it to the IIgs. I used to be able to get people to buy an Apple. Now, I honestly can't recommend it. The only one I will recommend is the IIc+ or Laser if they want something 'compatible' with the school's hardware. Otherwise I say buy an IBM or Amiga. (Or an Amiga with IBM compatibility) People on the net have said, 'You're just a small group...Apple won't listen.' Well, I say that the average person I know asks ME what kind of computer to buy BECAUSE I am knowledgable about them. So, here I wait for Apple to do SOMETHING. I'm going to go to AppleFest in May, and will decide based on the supposed 'announcement' on what computer I will stick with. (And it will probably be the Amiga...let's go as a group!) kirk@pro-denver.cts.com 'the opinion expressed above is ALPE: tristal mine alone, and subject to change.'

For example Silicon Express has several columns of titles that are for the GS. I know of one for example that was especially written for it ... 'Mean-18' by Accolade. I've heard the sound on a colleagues GS, and it sounded pretty good to me. I'm sure there are others ... I'm getting into the Mac now and have not been following the ][ much although I've had a ][+ since 1981 (using it right now to write this ... tied to a mainframe UNIX via modem, of course). My APPLE lives on !! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Dave =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= EOT

Here's my 2 cents worth.. I don't think the Apple ][ line will ever die. Many people will still support it and I know a lot of people who only need that much of a computer for their business. They have used them when they came out and they never needed to change. I bought the GS for the super new stuff. I was happy at first, but then I got caught up with all of the "well the IBM does this, or the Amiga, or the ST, or the Sun, or the Connection Machine does this, and my GS doesn't." It would be nice if it could, but as always, there is a faster rabbit that comes out next month.(Like that little phrase Mr. Sewall posted) I know this though, the GS cost a bit too much for what it does. The Apple ][ will never be as it used to be, but it will never die. That is certain. -- Dru Nelson UUCP: ....!uunet!gould!umbio!dnelson Miami, Florida MCI: dnelson Internet: dnelson%umbio@umigw.miami.edu
