Yes, I remember the old Saturday morning version. I always thought it was rather good for a Saturday morning show. I usually hark back to it when I'm commenting on the sad state of Saturday morning cartoons now-a-days. It was placed around 1975 or so, made by Filmation or Sid 'n Marty Kroft, I think. I'm trying to find out if I can get any copies of any episodes, so if someone out there can help, please do. Anyway, to clarify what happened in this Ghostbusters version (which immediately came to mind when I heard about the movie), Spencer, Tracy (the ape) and Kong would destroy ghosts by using the Ghost Dematerializer Gun--sort of looked like a Kodac instamatic. But it was a delightful show.
