An info-apple reader asked if it were a good idea to buy a used
Franklin system. The price is good, unfortunately the Franklin no longer
makes them as a result of a law suit brought by Apple. Consequently the
company provides no more technical support (or none that I hear of). For
those who own Franklins here is a list of compatible products from
Applied Engineering (no, I don't work for them) that may be useful:
Ramfactor
Transwarp
PC Transporter
Datalink 1200 and 2400 Modems
Serial Pro
Parallel Pro
Buffer Pro
Timemaster H.O.
Z-80 Plus
Phasor
Viewmaster 80
12 Bit, 16 Channel A/D
Signal Conditioner
A/D + D/A
I/O 32
5.25" Half-height Disk Drive
Since Franklin models vary you should call AE at (214) 241-6060
to be sure. One advantage of a Franklin is that it can use the PC
Transporter (the Lasers don't); although I hear that Franklins can
only used patched versions of ProDOS.

Franklin computers use to have a very high failure rate on about 1year output of their computer. The drives were horrible. I knew a woman that was head of the tech stuff there. She told me that the techs wouldnt align half the drives(which was apparent to me!). You best check for replacement parts, keyboards mainly. scott hutinger
