Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I have no problem with =ANY= service choosing which type of file storage programs to support and/or use. What upset me was the refusal to allow the SHRINKIT program itself to be offered as a download so others could try it. Smacks of discrimination to me but I certain Andy can handle it so I'm butting out. /steve system manager ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | UUCP: crash!pro-exchange!sschneider APPLELINK : sschneider | | ARPA: crash!pro-exchange!sschneider@nosc.mil COMPU$ERVE: 75166,2544 | | INET: sschneider@pro-exchange.cts.com GENIE : sschneider | | The RainForest @ 305-434-4927 / PO Box 841422, Pembroke Pines, Fl, 33084 | -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can indeed download ShrinkIt from GEnie. It's just in A2Pro, not A2. The sysops have a point: ShrinkIt isn't even finished yet, and having ONE MORE PACKER in A2 (the general-purpose Apple II section) is just going to confuse more neophytes. The library manager has enough questions already, like "What does BQY mean?", without having to worry about "What do you mean, I downloaded the wrong packer?" /\ \/ Jerry Kindall -- Jerry Kindall via cmhGate - Net 226 fido<=>uucp gateway Col, OH UUCP: ...!osu-cis!n8emr!cmhgate!10!Jerry.Kindall

ShrinkIT v0.95 can be found on GEnie in the AppleII developer (or whatever it's called) software libraries. Evan - erast1@unix.cis.pittsburgh.edu PS- At least it was there last night.

I'ld like to get my 2 cents in here a some on that has to call long distance to access Genie and at compuserves extra charges to Canada even more. So what am I saying. I'm infavor of any program that can reduce my down loading costs by 1/3. On an average down load to Genie that about 10 to 20 minutes connect time or 3 to 7 dollars. Considering I may do that 20 to 26 times a year that $75 to $150. Now that would buy be more than 1 good program or more connect time. I realize that Squeeze in BLU will include the LZW compression but I also feel that we should encourage all innovations. Look at the coversion routine BINSCII that Dave has given us not perfect but combined with Shrinkit I have a transmittable file that is no larger and some tines smaller that the original a cost saving for us all. Lets keep open minds Genie's administrators must have many questions as we have here about accessing archieves but then they get paid for it don't they. Grant
