Here's the wiring I used when I made my //c-to-modem cable:
looking at the male round connector from the open end, this is how I number
the pins: (may not be standard)

I realize this is upside down, but when I figured it out, that's how I
did it! The pin numbers on the RS232 are right.
5-pin 25-pin Signal
round rs-232 name
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outside 1 Chassis Ground
1 6 Data Set ready
2 3 Received Data
3 7 Signal ground
4 2 Sent data
5 20 Data Terminal Ready
You might want to wire 6 & 8 together (I think those are the ones)
if you're using a modem (those are the rs-232 pin nos). pin 8
is data carrier detect. Mine works fine without.
