Does anyone know of a public domain disk formatter that fits in a very small memory space? I need this for my MicroDot package (for more details on MicroDot, see page 10 of the latest Nibble). Currently I am using a very modified HYPER.FORMAT, but it requires a large memory buffer in which it builds the track image. Has anyone written a disk formatter which writes the track "on the fly" as did DOS 3.3? I really want to get rid of that huge track buffer. It wouldn't be so bad except that it's fixed in memory at $6800-$8000. /\ \/ Jerry Kindall -- Jerry Kindall via cmhGate - Net 226 fido<=>uucp gateway Col, OH UUCP: ...!osu-cis!n8emr!cmhgate!10!Jerry.Kindall

Well, I've got a _VERY_ slow formatter that does just this... not even as fast as DOS 3.3 format... more like a 3.2 (if you can remember that far back...) I'll dig it out of the archives and mail you a copy of the routine if you want it... I wrote this a long time ago and it could probably be a bit faster if you went through and modified the thing a bit... Sorry to post this on the net, but I have been unable to contact the person in question via mail. Chris (CYLau) aka Ultron, you mentioned a disk formatter you wrote a while back. I am interested in seeing it (with source code if possible). Send it to me at crash!pnet01!pro-beagle!jerryk or jerryk%pro-beagle@nosc.mil. (I still haven't figured out the net so I hope I'm correct on the above addresses.) Or if{others are interested, post it on comp.binaries.apple2. /\ \/ Jerry Kindall
