My experience with unpacking Hyper C using ShrinkIt may be of use to someone out there. First, I have a IIc, so Hyper C DOES run on my machine. I have confirmed locally that GS users can't run it. Second, I normally use a local FIDOnet system which is linked up to UUCP via cmhGate, an OPUS/UUnet system. (Right now I'm using pro-beagle since my local comp.sys.apple link is down.) Since FIDO boards have a maximum capacity of 99 text lines per message, the Hyper C postings were all split into two parts, making for a grand total of 16. The pairs of postings all had to be edited and merged before I could use BinSCII on them. The first four parts of Hyper C came through on one day, and the next day the other four arrived. Unfortunately, because of the way the Fido system handles the subject header when messages must be split up, I couldn't tell that there were more than four parts to Hyper C. Naturally the unpacking did not go well until I had all eight parts. :) Then there's ShrinkIt. I am fond of putting stuff on my UniDisk 3.5 when downloading. ShrinkIt has a rather fun bug when unpacking or packing a disk onto a 3.5" drive on a IIc, though. (Perhaps I should call this a bug in the IIc.) I assume that Andy has fixed this on version 1.0 of ShrinkIt though. For now, I just modified my ProDOS to always turn off the 5.25" drive motor before calling the UniDisk device driver. Works like a charm. So for those of you who have been having problems getting Hyper C to work on your system, take heart. I got it going despite all my problems. Perhaps this will help some of you who are still having problems. Incidentally, I am very interested in that ProDOS 8 version of Hyper C. If someone gets permission to upload that, or someone converts the current version to run under ProDOS 8, we may finally have a decent C on our hands. Unlike Aztec, the text output speed is marginally acceptable (although I DO have a Rocket Chip. :) - Jerry Kindall jerryk@pro-beagle.cts.com crash!pnet01!pro-beagle!jerryk jerryk%pro-beagle.cts.com@nosc.mil GEnie: J.KINDALL ALink: JKindall
