I like my Apple IIe because its dependable. Nevertheless, it is slow. I suggest that Apple make a superfast Apple 2, avoiding competition with its own MacIntosh line by orienting it more towards text, mousetext, mice, etc., but not graphics. I know this will surprise a lot of dedicated arcade game programmers for the Apple 2 line out there. The graphics can stay but no dedicated graphics chips, as has been suggested. Just faster CPU, keep the 16 bit technology and new OS, etc (tho' I have a IIe) but create a new marketing line for TEXT COMPUTERS. To this end, much of word processing is just as fast as any other computer. I really like the mousetext oriented programs, and these would be much faster than graphics based ones. I know this is radical, but it does suggest a new path for the Apple II-- one which might set a trend with at least some microcomputers. Forget all the pretty stuff, says the Volkswagen owner! I just want to get from A to B! The Volkswagen would never have electric windows and cellular phone, but sooping it up sure would getcha there faster!!! Simple but fast. How 'bout it? Jeff Stern.
