----- From: avram rudy vener <portal!cup.portal.com!salt at UUNET.UU.NET> Subject: Re: Hyper C posting <-> Kix, an alternative to C I have tried both Hyper C, Aztec C and a few others. I finally settled on Kyan Pascal and KIX. I've been using them both on my expanded //c with a 20 Meg hard disk for several years now. The advantage of KIX is that it is a true operating system, and works very much like UNIX (R). The Kyan version of Pascal allows you to compile both library dependant BIN files and independant SYSTEM files. They also allow embedded assembly code which neatly takes care of any limitations inherent in Pascal (many!). ----- Kix is NOT a "true operating system", it is merely a shell that installs over top of the operating system- in this case ProDOS... If I wanted a shell, I'd use Davex- can do everything that Kix can and then some.. I also have Kyan Pascal and while I feel that it is an excellent product, the iso standard is not one that I like to work with (most "normal" (ansi) pascal and apple pascal program will not run under Kyan without modifications... in some cases even when the code is perfectly legal...)
