I have tried both Hyper C, Aztec C and a few others. I finally settled on Kyan Pascal and KIX. I've been using them both on my expanded //c with a 20 Meg hard disk for several years now. The advantage of KIX is that it is a true operating system, and works very much like UNIX (R). The Kyan version of Pascal allows you to compile both library dependant BIN files and independant SYSTEM files. They also allow embedded assembly code which neatly takes care of any limitations inherent in Pascal (many!). Normally I prefer C. But for the Apple, there just wasn't one good enough. KIX works only on ProDOS systems. You cannot use it with DOS 3.3. I avoided this problem by simply not buying any DOS 3.3 software :-) Rudy

If I wanted a shell, I'd use Davex- can do everything that Kix can and then some.. I also have Kyan Pascal and while I feel that it is an excellent product, the iso standard is not one that I like to work with (most "normal" (ansi) pascal and apple pascal program will not run under Kyan without modifications... in some cases even when the code is perfectly legal...) Speaking of Kyan, is this company still alive? I bought their Pascal a while ago and didn't use it for much. When I finally decided to write something in it I found that there was a bug that prevented me from making stand alone programs (the newsletter I got mentioned this and referred me to a non-existance section of itself for the fix aarrrg.) Does anyone have the fix to this bug? Is this company still around (their adverts have disappeared, not a good sign)
