Movie: Dreamscape Nutshell summary: Disappointing; a grade B move; ** out of **** Long form review: The acting is weak at points. The script is poor and the cinematography choppy. Special effects are adequate but not exciting. The plot is predictable, and has implausible sequences and ragged flow. The theme is not very original nor creative. They could have done a lot more with the premise, especially the dream sequences. Not a total bomb, but not what you might hope for from the trailers, either. See it if you have the time, money, and interest, but don't set your expectations too high. Not enough fantasy escapism. Mildly entertaining unless you are pretty critical. #N:uokvax:3900060:000:1152 uokvax!lmaher Aug 18 02:44:00 1984 Non-spoiler review of _Dreamscape_, by the numbers: 1) I think Parapsychology is a joke. 2) I despise films about Psychics kidnapped by the government for evil purposes. 3) The music was too obtrusive. 4) But I liked this film anyway. Mostly because the protagonist, Alex, is a likeable guy, and while the plot is standard the execution is excellent. No stupid endings with people spinning around and fountains of blood spraying in every direction in this film, folks! Alex's powers are much more subtle than that. I might rate this film with the third quarter of Twilight Zone- The Movie for most unsettling ending. And George Wendt (from Cheers) is marvelous as a ...but that would be spoiling it. On my scale, a should-see. (By the way, my recommendations assume you like to see movies and your only cost in doing so is five bucks and two hours. If you only see one movie a year, or have to hire babysitters/ drive to the city/take the kids along, adjust accordingly. Thank you.) Speaking of kids, this movie deserves its PG-13 rating. Especially don't take anyone whose dreams are influenced by movies. Carl ..!ctvax!uokvax!lmaher
