I suppose I should have known that it was too good to be true (and it was) so here's the lowdown on what I know is wrong with v1.0 of ShrinkIt -- o If you are shrinking a 5.25" disk which uses DOS 3.3, you're in for a surprise when you try to unshrink the disk. ShrinkIt will say "<Optimized>" while attempting to shrink the disk. This is _very_ bad. To "Optimize" a disk, ShrinkIt reads the ProDOS bitmap off the disk, assuming, of couse that it _is_ a ProDOS disk to begin with, and then chooses which blocks to zero. ShrinkIt mistakenly will try to optimize your DOS 3.3 disks _anyway_, which it shouldn't. The result is that the disk you packed will get very scrambled. This will be fixed in v1.1 of ShrinkIt. o If you are unshrinking from an archive with many files and you press OA-A to select (A)LL of the files to be extracted and then press <return> to begin extracting, ShrinkIt will _only_ extract the file which was highlighted last. This will be fixed in ShrinkIt v1.1. ShrinkIt 1.1 will be available in the next day or so, and will archive sparse files correctly, but when it unarchives files, since ProDOS/8 doesn't automatically make files sparse, the converse won't be true. andy ------------- Andy Nicholas CsNET: shrinkit@moravian.edu Box 435, Moravian College InterNET: shrinkit%moravian.edu@relay.cs.net Bethlehem, PA 18018 liberty!batman!shrinkit@sun.com uucp: rutgers!lafcol!lehi3b15!mc70!shrinkit AppleLink PE: ShrinkIt rutgers!liberty!batman!shrinkit
