[comp.sys.apple] MIDI Software

denis@esvax.berkeley.edu (Denis Lee) (04/17/88)

Hi, can anyone tell about any good MIDI software for the APPLE II/+/e/c?
(especially any public domain) Also, any software that can be used with
the KORG DS-8 like editors.
                               Thanks,
                                Denis

A while back there was some discussion on the merits of Apple // MIDI
programs vs those of other machines. Not many specific software titles
were mentioned, and being interested in MIDI capabilities for my //e
I would like to pursue the matter further.

In my latest edition of the "Roland Users Group" magazine, there is a
shopping list of available MIDI software for quite a few computer brands.
Most notably lacking are titles for the Apple // series.

The only MIDI packages listed for the Apple // were:

  Title Machine Vendor Price
  ----- ------- ------ -----
JX-8P/JX-10 Editor Librarian Apple // Caged Artist $99.00
  MT-32 Editor/Librarian Apple //e Kirkhouse Music $69.95
  Juno-106 Editor/Librarian Apple // Passport Designs $69.95
  JX-8P/JX-10 Editor/Librarian Apple // Passport Designs $69.95

Rather slim pickings, but about what I expected. To those knowledgeable
in such matters, what's the scoop with the above? Which are good and which
are junk? I'm just starting to get into the MIDI stuff, and don't want to
invest much into equipment and software until I'm sure it's the right
thing for me to do (I've got too many expensive toys that take up my time
as it is :-)), but I would like to "play" a bit and see what it all about.

Any information would be appreciated (besides advice to buy a Mac or Atari!).
