[comp.sys.apple] Summary: Apple IIc memory expansion and Mac 400K disk drives

davej@uw-entropy.ms.washington.edu (Dave Jenner) (03/17/89)

I received several responses to my request of several weeks ago--I thank
those who responded. Here is what I learned:

1) Memory expansion. It IS possible to expand all IIcs, although if the
CPU and MMU are soldered to the motherboard, it is more difficult. I was
pointed to the following vendor:

	Nexo Distribution
	914 East 8th Street, Suite 109
	National City, CA 92050
	(619) 474-3328 (10am-6pm, PxT)

They distribute a complete line of Apple II boards, one of which is a 1MByte
memory expansion board. Unpopulated (uses 256Kbit, 150 nsec chips) it sells
for $69. Just what I wanted. I ordered one and it works fine, so far.

I suggest that anyone who wants to expand or augment any Apple II (+,e,c,gs)
ask for their catalog, since it has quite a range of interesting products.

2) 400K Mac disk drives apparently don't work with the IIc. However, if
you get a Laser Universal Disk Controller (originally designed by Central
Point Software of Copy II+ fame), you can use them with PRO-DOS applications
on the Apple II+, IIe, IIgs.
