#N:trsvax:53700030:000:1603 trsvax!gm Aug 25 01:17:00 1984 I went to see "The Philadelphia Experiment" tonight. It is about this "true" experiment the Navy did in 1943 to make our ships invisable to enemy radar. Trouble is, it worked too well and made the ship truly invisable. Two unlucky sailors get transported forward in time to 1984 where the Marines are doing another experiment to make a town missile proof. Pretty bad flick. If you have a VCR or video disc player, wait for it to come out then. (about 1 month from now). Looks like the movie was written and shot for a two hour movie, but about 30 minutes out of the middle got ripped out. Some of the special effects weren't too bad though. But it looks like they went skimpy on some of the props. For example, this one scene shows this USMC private typing something into the computer. But the computer happened to be a Commodore 64 (or VIC-20). I didn't like the ending. Rather than David (the hero) getting his girlfriend back, I think he should of wound up on the deck of the U.S.S. Nimitz during a routine training voyage (ala "The Final Countdown") where he meets up with Jack the Ripper (ala "Time after Time") and Lyle Swan (ala "Timerider"). That would have been a lot better. One ounce of blood. Three motor vehicle chase scenes. Two second shot of a female breast. One sailor-stuck-in-a-bulkhead scene. No kung-fu. Heads do not roll. Hands do not roll, but glow red. Joseph Robert says don't check it out. (except from you local video rental store). Two stars out of four.
