I guess | this is all a matter of opinion. More and more CS and CE majors these days | are going through life without ever having to deal with assembly language | much at all, and NEVER having to deal with machine language directly. I don't | think it's necessary to learn exactly what the computer's doing with your | code (machine language) before learning how to make your code WORK. I do | think it's important to have some exposure to assembly language, but I | don't think it has to be that soon, unless of course that's what the kid | wants. PARDON? Where I'm going to school, Programming I (ONE) is Assembler. THEN in Programming II you get to learn COBOL. (Ok, so it's ugly... I'll survive it!) A while back, on which group I forget, there was a lot of discussion whether Assembly should be taught first or second semester. I don't recall anyone NOT recommending we teach it. | I went from Applesoft BASIC to Pascal instead of to assembly. So I'm weird. I went from Applesoft BASIC to Machine Language. Boy, are you WEIRD! :-) [david] -- ======== David Douthitt :::: Madison, WI :::: The Stainless Steel Rat ======== FidoNet: 1:121/2 ::::: WittiNet: "Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice." :::::: UseNet: ...{rutgers|ucbvax|harvard}!uwvax!astroatc!nicmad!madnix!rat ArpaNet: madnix!rat@cs.wisc.edu {decvax|att}!
