[...] It works. Here's some old info that came from an Apple II DTS person on CompuServe a year or more ago: ---------- Apple II ProFile Interface Card Modification for the Apple IIGS PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Some ProFile interface cards will not work properly when installed in the Apple IIGS. ProFile directory information might become damaged and cause the user not to be able to access data stored on the ProFile. CAUSE: There might be an incomplete ground path through the card. CURE: If ANY ProFile interface card is to be installed in an Apple IIGS, check first to see that a jumper, made of 24-26 guage multistrand wirte is installed between pin 12 of IC C6 (2716 EPROM-Apple Part #341-0299) and pin 1 of IC B4 (74LS368-Apple Part #305-0368) on the non-component side of the board. If needed, the jumper should be installed by a knowledgeable technician [...]. The technician should remove the EPROM before soldering, thus preventing any damage to the chip. ---------- >[...] I know there are FST's for SCSI drives and newer CD drives, but >I'm not sure about the Profile. [...] (Now _that's_ an odd thing to know, isn't it? :-) Actually, FSTs are File System Translators, and they're for file systems, not for particular devices. Examples of file systems are the ProDOS format, High Sierra/ISO 9660 (for compact disks), the DOS 3.3 format, HFS, the MS-DOS format (or formats?), etc. There is no special driver for the Profile--the one GS/OS generates for it by default does just fine. >Mark Teskey --David A. My memory may be going, but I seem to recall trying a ProFile under GS/OS and it didn't work. Since the ProFile interface card is not a standard ProDOS block device, I can't imagine that the generated driver would work. --- Paul Wenker UUCP: prw@mecc.mn.org MECC, Advanced Development AppleLink: MECC.TECH
