[comp.sys.apple] Apple Rumors!

asd@mentor.cc.purdue.edu (Kareth) (04/01/89)

Hey folks, how ya all be? Remember me? I'm the fool who was planning on
porting XINU or Minix. Enough of that, this was recently sent to me by a
friend for me to post up all over the world, universe, whatever. It's a bit
obscure and such, but I thought folks might be interested in seeing this.

Apple II engineers fight back

Apple's Cupertino neighbors burned up the phone lines last week,
calling to complain about the angry and anguished cries emanating
from endangered Apple II software engineers. The argument
the engineers are using on Apple executives is that the IIGS, which
so far has contributed very little to Apple's bottom line, could be
the low-cost Mac that Apple will need to effectively maintain
and expand its position in the K-12 education market.
"We've already brought the bottom time down to less
than 34 seconds (faster than the Mac Plus) and rewritten the Toolbox
so it's easier to write programs," the IIGS engineers say.
The Knife's trusted sources claim that even though Apple has
apparently decided to let the aging Apple II line fade gracefully
into the sunset, software engineers are defiantly continuing
to work on the project. Another point in the engineers' favor is
a new digital video card for the Apple II line, due out April 3
from Apple, that includes both RGB and NTSC, thus making
high quality video available to several hundred thousand installed
Apple IIes.
While Apple's human resources department may not be
worried about uppity personnel in the Apple II group, it may have one
or more high-level vacancies soon. At least one Macintosh
heavyweight is soon expected to join Russ Wetmore in jumping ship
for Preferred Publishers. Wetmore, by the way, is said to
be very interested in doing a telecommunications program, which
could eventually show up in Preferred's product brochures.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, some problems: who are Apple's neighbors, what the heck is a "bottom
time", who's gonna be out on the street's looking for a job, and is the
telecommunications package Wetmore is gonna write be for the Apple //?

Remember they just be rumors.

Be Excellent to One Another!

lwv@n8emr.UUCP (Larry W. Virden) (04/01/89)

Note that "Mac the Knife" is so unreliable that I treat the page as comic
relief. I watched his Sun Micro, Inc rumors right before the 386i
announcement and they were so off base. Likewise, he has been predicting
the Mac laptop for about 3 years - and the predicted announcement dates
have all been off. Likewise, I have checked with sources on several of
the other rumors from Apple with insiders who tell me he is so far off...

So I would not get too much in an uproar over his comments.
