I admit, I don't know very much about the actual hardware of the II (but
that will soon change). I have one question though:
Has anyone heard of the Tandy Color Computer III? I'd just like to point
out that the Coco III has a priority based multitasking operating system
out for it right now. Now, if a Coco III can multitask, why can't an
Apple II? I believe they are both based on the 6502. I can't remember
though, the Coco III might have the 6809 or something else. But anyway,
it is an 8 bit, it doesn't have an MMU and it can't support the kind
of memory an Apple II can (I believe it is limited to 512K. I've got
friends that have 2+ megs in their Apple IIe's).
The operating system is called OS-9 (it was out long before OS-2 for the
IBM) and it does a nice job. I actually got to play with it.
I am a first year EE major so I'm not an expert (yet), but I do think it
can be done.
