[comp.sys.apple] Using Kermit for binary transfers

Ah -- one *little?* thing I forgot to mention. IF you do try a BINARY
transfer with Kermit to/from an IBM host, the host will NOT translate
EBCDIC to ASCII !!

If a file is uploaded as binary and sent from one IBM host to another
(without an intervening ASCII gateway), then the file CAN be downloaded as
binary (Dick Atlee sends me his Kermit-A2 from Maryland by that process).

Unfortunately, if the file is uploaded as text, then the host translates
ASCII to EBCDIC and only a text download will translate it back. That means
if you are trying to use ProTerm 2.0's Kermit to download an BINSCII'd file
from an IBM host, you won't be able to get around the bug by downloading in
binary mode (cause what you'll get WON'T be ASCII).
