Anybody out there heard the scoop on the new Applied Engineering Hard Drive coming out?? (Under the name Vulcan.) (see one page adds in most major apple mags.) High Speed? High priced? Is it worth waiting for? I'm starting to get into using GS/OS, and wishing I had a hard drive, but can't justify $800-$900 for for what IBM clones get for under $400. (Besides, I'm saving my pennies for a Transwarp GS.) I've been really happy with the AE products I already own. What I'd like to know is if any one knows how this drive(s) will stack up to the rest of the market, primarily in performace and price. I called AE the minute I read that ad. The person I talked to said it would be worth the wait (but of course she wants me to buy from AE). If you call AE, they will send you information about the drive as soon as it (the information) is available. I called and asked them to send me some. Another nice thing about the recent issue is that it goes into great depth about hard drives for the II series and even describes how you can build your own (where to get the parts etc.).
