With all this talk about price gouging (let's call it what it is!)
by Apple, I thought you'd like to hear this. My gs Battery went on a
one-way vacation. I called around to find out that the repair didn't
require a mother board swap but it did cost $60. Yea, SIXTY dollars!
I found a company that sold them (if I find it I'll post it) for $7.40
with the axial leads (direct replacement) or $7.00 pressure contact
type. I got a battery holder for it for about $2.60 and put in the
holder carefully. When the battery is installed, the little piece of
non-conductive foam that I glued to the bottom of the power supply
holds the battery in firmly and helps secure the holder. The board to
power supply clearance is 1/16" more than the height of the battery
holder. The batter is 1/16-1/32" less than that. Works like a champ.
I've got another for when it dies too. 10 year shelf life outlasts
2-3 year use life.
If I can still find the data, I'll get the part/supplier list and
post it.
Later folks.
