[comp.sys.apple] Laser 800k 3.5 Disk Drive w/ Central Point smart port card

toth@tellab5.tellabs.CHI.IL.US (Joseph G. Toth Jr.) (04/15/89)

I recently purchased the 'Subject' hardware, and installed the Smart Port
in slot 7 of my Enhanced Allpe //e, while connecting the Disk Drive to
port 1 od the interface card.

It works GREAT using ProDOS 8, and any ProDOS application programs that I
currently have.

I have had problems getting any other systems to work with it, so
here are some things I would like to know;

I got a copy of AMDOS off of APPLE2-L at BROWNVM, and followed the directions
for installing it from my 5 1/4 drives in slot 6. The 3.5 drive can be
accessed from AMDOS when it is booted from the 5 1/4 drive in slot 6, but
won't boot from the the 3.5 in slot 7 after I copied all the files to it.
Well, it starts to boot, but then dies with a jump to the monitor.
I really want to boot from the 3.5 in the highest slot possible.
--- Are the instructions missing something??
--- Does it have to boot from slot 5 or slot 6??

Is there any way to get HyperC to use the 3.5 drive??
Or for that matter, any drives in slots other than 6??
I like the fundamentals of the HyperC System, but the lack of support
of serial devices and anything but two 5 1/4 drives in slot 6 put a big
crimp on its usability.

Which brings me back to some previous postings... There was a statement
that a second disk with utilities was going to be posted.
--- Was it ever posted anywhere, and where (Compuserve, GEnie etc.)??
--- If it was, could somebody send me a copy via email??
--- If it wasn't, when and/or will it ever be posted??
--- Is there ANY possibility that the ProDOS version could be public
domain, so that it could be distributed (which would solve almost
all the problems - the ability to interface with ProDOS utilities
would make life so much easier)??

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give..
