>BITNET, over the past week and a half, has been pretty much hosed. >(took me 5 days to get some MORIA2 files, should have taken 5 hours). Response rates vary quite a bit from one place on the net to another. No doubt readers in the Southeast and Southwest will be puzzled by your report. >Rumor has it around here that someone ordered massive amounts of large >files, and therefore killed the net. BITNET is, it seems, about to get >so bogged down it's going to be as bad as UUCP leaf-node connections. LISTSERV imposes limits on the quantity of files that can be ordered in any 24 hour period, and BITNET has limits on acceptable file sizes (300K). Nevertheless, there are occasional backlogs of considerable size. Readers of LINKFAIL will no that the usual response is to roll the backlog off to tape and deliver the files when traffic isn't so heavy. Chris limits the number of files posted to APPLE2-L in any 24 hour period in order to avoid being singled out as a chronic contributor to the net backlog. Of course, we COULD return to the situation of two years ago (no APPLE2-L, no ftp, no comp.binaries.apple2). A little patience probably is wiser.
