[comp.sys.apple] Apple IIGS RGB monitor problems

hartkopf@tramp.Colorado.EDU (HARTKOPF JEFFREY M) (04/25/89)

I've been having a problem with my RGB monitor for my IIGS which I haven't
seen on others. When I have my computer on for a while, and then turn it
off by the power switch, I can't use it again for at least a half-hour or
more because when I turn it on again, the monitor doesn't work properly--
there are jagged lines running across the screen. After a while it will
work again, but needless to say it is not nice to have to wait more than
1/2 hour if I forgot to do something! Thanks for any help...

A friend of mine had a similar problem which turned out to be the RAM
card he was using. I believe it was the RamPack 4, but I can't remember
the company which manufactured the card. If you have a way to verify the
card, such as running it on another machine, I would suggest you do so.

I have seen this happen before on the RGB's, Just adjust the horizontal hold
on the back of the monitor more to the middle of the screen and it should
solve your problems.

One thing you might check is the vertical sizing knob on the back of
the monitor. The same thing happened to me. Turned the computer off
and back on and the monitor went crazy. Though something was fried
in the computer but decided to check the monitor. Lucky for me, I
probably saved myself a $200+ motherboard swap (but thats another
story :-) ).

This might not be the problem, but something similar can happen if your
horizontal hold adjustment on the back of the monitor is borderline...Find the
horizontal hold knob and try adjusting it until you get a picture. If you
don't, then that wasn't the problem! :) Sometimes it happens to my monitor.
