[net.movies] dissident "Bolero" review

[The FINAL opinion of "Bolero"]

I saw "Bolero" on 9/4.
Let me temper my opinion: I did not expect much from this movie.
What I got, though, was a thoroughly delightful and colorful excursion.
The acting was overdone--grand, but timely--the mood of the setting was
carefully controlled even at this level.
There was intense cinematography that was gripping--it pulls you in.
The characters were real; more real, in fact, than in most movies I've
seen in quite a while (and I've seen a few).
The sets were also characteristically overdone--it all lends to the overall
vastness and wonder in this film.
It was fun, light entertainment. More enjoyable than say, "Terms of
Endearment" whose only claim to art was that it was depressing.

Now, the only problem I had with this movie is the cretinous lot that the
X rating brought in. I fully believe that instead of granduer and enter-
tainment, they wanted a huge close-up of a vagina with cylindrical objects
sliding into it for two hours. I had to actually change my seat (something
I've only done once before) so I didn't have to hear the three slobs behind
me ask again and again where the huge close-up of the vagina was.
So, my opinion is this: definitely see it--but make sure it's on a VCR.
