A friend of mine (on the opposite coast mind you) has a problem getting a printer to work off his Apple so here I am humbly asking for information. He has a Apple Super Serial Card with a Epson 80mx printer. What we would like to know is the switch settings for the Card (what do they do?) and the pin out for the cable of both the card and the printer. Also any switch settings of the printer. Thanks for the help PS He wasn't looking at the printer so the 'mx' may not be correct if you have never heard of a mx assume it is one that you know.

From article <3869@meccts.MECC.MN.ORG>, by prw@meccts.MECC.MN.ORG (Paul Wenker): > > From Print Manager's and the application's point of view, the Epson > driver is identical to the ImageWriter driver. The normal vertical > resolution for all three printers is 36 pixels/inch. Setting the > vertical sizing to Intermediate will give you 54 pixels/inch. Setting > the vertical sizing to Condensed will give you 72 pixels/inch. > > The horizontal resolution for the ImageWriter/Epson driver is 40 > pixels/inch (80 pixels/inch in 640 mode), while the resolution of the > LaserWriter driver is 42 pixels/inch (84 pixels/inch in 640 mode). I haven't talked with Kevin (who wrote the Epson driver) yet, so I don't know if he uses the same interleave scheme the ImageWriter driver does to get the better-than screen resolution (horizontally). My point is that if the inkjet printer in question does work with the Epson driver, it probably won't print at the printer's best resolution, like the LaserWriter (which is better than the ImageWriter, but not nearly as good as it could be) or the ImageWriter-LQ, which uses a driver virtually identical to the ImageWriter. The ImageWriter DOES get better than screen resolution, but only if you use Better Text. Better Color gets an image identical to screen resolution. -- Scott Lindsey, wombat | UUCP: {ames, apple, portal, sun, voder}!claris!scott Product Development | Internet: scott@claris.com | AppleLink: LINDSEY1 Claris Corp. | Disclaimer: These are not the opinions of Claris, (415) 960-4070 | Apple, the author, or anyone else living or dead.

Out of curiosity, does anyone out there have an electronic typewriter with a printer option that doesn't work with the apple? I have one too, so I wrote a custom driver to run it. It may not be a gas-plasma display on batteries, but it does go the remaining distance to making a IIc, or Laser 128 fully portable for under $100. If anyone is interested I'll send it out... ...freeware. Works under dos 3.3 & prodos 8. -- Michael J Pender Jr Box 1942 c/o W.P.I. I wrote SHELL and Daemon, greyelf@wpi.bitnet 100 Institute Rd. send bug reports, suggestions, greyelf@wpi.wpi.com Worcester, Ma 01609 checks to me. People keep asking me if Shell or Daemon are compatible with the IIc, IIe. YES, I wrote them on my Laser 128. I mean, what would be the challenge to multitasking on a IIgs? I'll start writing dedicated gs programs when somebody sends me one in the mail.

I am looking for an Imagewriter compatible. Preferable an Imagewriter II one. Brother M-1109AP, and the Laser 190A. Also, I hear that Olympia will be releasing one shortly. If anyone who owns one of the above mentioned printers or anyone who knows about them, could they please post it in this feed. Thanks. --- Stanley Wong, co-sysop of Pro-Generic | swong@pro-generic.cts.com {uunet, hplabs} crash!pro-generic!swong| crash!pro-generic!swong@nosc.mil ---
