Dear Friends, Individuals associated with the Veterans Peace Action Teams (VPAT) have developed a special relationship with our brothers and sisters in Nicaragua who are members of the Organization of Revolutionary Disabled - vets who have incurred war injuries of a disabling nature. One of the trucks (from the Bay Area) of the Vets Peace Convoy to Nicaragua went to the ORD and now we are helping them secure a computer, relevant software & documentation, small scale industrial sewing machines, sports equipment and wheelchairs and crutches. We have just had a Lisa computer donated. It has 2 ram & a hard disk but very little software. (1) We are in desperate need of software and manuals. Also, we have (2) questions about turning this early mac into a real mac. Is this possible? (3) we need a printer. (4) Does anyone know of a Lisa users group? (5) Does anyone know of anyone in Mana gua who is familiar with Lisa's or who could give some support to the ORD? Please respond either here or e-mail to hmuskat. Thanks. -halM-

I knew someone who did just that. You're going to have to get the "twiggy" (5.25) drives replaced with 3.5s, or you can just add new ones. You're also going to need a memory upgrade. Methinks that the Lisa came with 256k; this should be expanded to a meg. Have you tried calling Apple? I know they're not much help, but they should be able to point you in the right direction. And don't forget your local dealer! If he can't perform the necessary surgery, he probably can tell where it can be done. I hope this helps some. Good luck!

You need to contact Sun Remarketing, Inc. in Logan, Utah. They took over all responsibility for service and support of the Lisa after Apple obsoleted it. Specifically, you need to get a copy of MacWorks Plus ($200) to get a reasonable Mac emulation on the Lisa. There's also a hardware mod that "reshapes" the pixels on the Lisa's rectangular screen so circles look like circles rather than elipses, squares aren't rectangles, etc. This is required if you plan to use paint or drawing programs or do desktop publishing. Sun's last catalog listed the Screen Modification kit for $79. Contact them at PO Box 4059 Logan, Utah 84321 Phones: Cust svc - 801-752-7631 Orders - 800-821-3221 ext 367
