It would be nice if Apple would switch to optical mice, or at least make
them an option. I've used both mechanical and optical mice and in my opinion
the optical mouse is nicer to use, despite the mousepad.
They don't get gunked up as much (unless you try to use them
in a puddle of coffee)
They don't skip like mechanical mice so often do
They can be light for easier use, without sacrificing usability
You don't have to worry about losing or breaking that little ball...
If I were in the market for a new mouse I'd probably get the Mouse-A+
by Mouse Systems (they make the mice that come with the Suns and the
color IBM terminals here). In the JDR catalog for $70.
