Subject: Carpet Bag BUG!

I think I've found a rather large flaw in the program "Carpet Bag" posted to
Apple 2-L sometime ago.

My system will crash whenever I try to use AppleWorks 2.0 while I have the
Carpet Bag DA active. If I deactivate it with the Finder, Appleworks works
fine. I have Marcoworks (I forget the version) also installed with Appleworks.
Perhaps that is the culprit.

Besides this slight problem... I think the program is great!

I tried Carpet Bag on my system and also had some problems. It works
fine with AppleWorks 2.1 and AppleWorks GS, but AppleWorks 2.0 hangs
while loading. Both of my 2.n versions of AppleWorks are modified by
the TimeOut programs QuickSpell, FileMaster, and UltraMacros. Carpet
Bag also had a problem when attempting to load DAs while running a
TML Pascal program. The idea is great, and the program is nice when
it works, but it does have several bugs in its current incarnation.

I recently reported two problems with the Carpet Bag NDA. One
problem was that AppleWorks 2.0 would hang while loading. John
Kasperski and Doug Mcintyre were kind enough to point out that this
was a bug in AppleWorks 2.0 and not a bug in Carpet Bag. John
suggested that I use SuperPatch 3.1 to apply the NDA fix to
AppleWorks. I did this and it fixed the problem. (SuperPatch is one
of the best bargains that I have ever seen. If you have not tried
it, do so. And be sure to send your $5.00 "Beggarware" fee to the
author.)

My second problem occurred when I attempted to load an NDA while
running a TML Pascal program. I can load CDAs without any problem.
However, when I load an NDA and then pull down the Apple menu, none
of the names of the NDAs appear in the menu (not even ones loaded at
boot time). If I then quit my TML Pascal program and run the Finder,
the names of all of the NDAs appear in the Apple menu (including the
one just loaded by Carpet Bag). Anyone have any ideas?

One other minor discrepancy is that the subject line and description
in the APPLE2-L file for Carpet Bag refer to it as version 1.4.
However, both the documentation file and the NDA show a version
number of 1.3. Is the APPLE2-L file the most recent version?
